very low mic signal

Very low mic signal

Yesterday I was trying voice recognition. The tutorial seems to work fine but then I have lots of trouble using it.
I've noticed that the signal bar is very low so I've tryied to set input signal volume but is set to 100 already.
Anyone noticed low sound signals under Windows Vista? On XP with same sound hardware and mic I don't have any problems.

It is my understanding from the Microsoft Speech Group that the current beta contains changes that corrected problems with Vista's audio signal handling. We have had the reverse experience to yours. With build 5308, Vista Speech required a much higher audio input than that of other vendor's speech applications. Currently, Vista Speech's audio level requirements are similar to those of other programs and the audio sounds clear. There are, unfortunately, two problems. Vista Speech recognition accuracy is now terrible compared with the performance under build 5308. Adjusting the audio level does not correct this problem. The best way to test it is to train some new words and check to see if the program then properly recognizes these words. A second, and relatively minor issue, is that the three Vista Speech VU displays show markedly different levels. We are using a Creative X-Fi sound card with a driver that was last updated in 11/2005. It is possible that all of us are having problems that are related to changes in Vista that impact the sound card driver functions. Also, I would check to see if the 20db boast is set properly for your application. Robbie

I've checked on the audio settions for the boost option but it's not there. I thinks this option is driver dependent as I remember to see this on my previous SB Live! card. Now I have a C-media on board sound on my ASUS P5GD2 Deluxe motherboard.
Until I find a solution for the low mic input signal I can't try voice recognition. :-(
Regards, Angel.

Also, I would check to see if the 20db boast is set properly for your application. Robbie
